Chris Moehlenkamp, Cello
Before moving To Columbus in 2012, Chris had been the principal cellist and frequent soloist for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee and the United States Air Force Band in Washington DC. As principal cellist of the USAF Band and Orchestra, Chris was a member of the acclaimed USAF String Quartet, which had the honor of performing programs for heads of state, several U.S. vice presidents, and four U.S. presidents. Chris studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music with Lynn Harrell, Peter Wiley, and the LaSalle Quartet. In Columbus, Chris is very active as a professional cellist, including working as an associate member of the Columbus Symphony and assistant principal with the Newark Granville Symphony. In addition, he keeps busy with a private teaching studio and is on the faculty of Suzuki Music Columbus and the Denison Suzuki Program.
Douglas Locke, Violin
Doug is a graduate of the University of Hartford’s highly acclaimed Hartt School of Music. He studied with Eric Rosenbilth and Philip Setzer of the world-renowned Emerson String Quartet. A soloist, first violinist, and founding member of the Bel Aurora Chamber Players, he is frequently in demand as a principal with professional groups including Newark Granville Symphony, a principal second violin, and numerous freelance chamber groups. Doug is the Co-Artistic/Executive Director of the thriving violin, viola, cello school, “Suzuki Music Columbus,” where he maintains a full studio of violin students and directs the Suzuki Music Columbus Tour Group. In addition, he stays pretty busy as coaching and violin faculty for Chamber Music Connection and Otterbein University.
Dawna Rone, viola
Dawna Rone earned a degree in viola performance from The Ohio State University, where she studied with Michael Davis. In addition to her studies, she received a graduate degree from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, working with Catherine Carroll and Masao Kowasaki. She is an active musician, playing in many chamber groups and symphony orchestras, including stints as principal violist for both the Aspen Music Festival Opera Orchestra and the Westerville Symphony, and is a member of the Newark Granville Symphony and an associate violist with the Columbus Symphony. As if her performing schedule is not enough, Dawna is a trained Suzuki violin and viola instructor working with Suzuki Music Columbus while parenting three wonderful, active young children with her husband Jeff in Hilliard, Ohio.
Nadine Moehlenkamp, Violin
A Graduate of the prestigious Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Nadine has performed with many professional orchestras, including the Knoxville Symphony in Tennessee, Fairfax Symphony in Virginia, and the Newark Granville Symphony in Ohio. She has performed with numerous chamber groups around the country. As founder and violinist of the Occoquan Chamber Players and Shenandoah Strings, Nadine has had many years of experience helping plan and organize chamber music for special events. Former director and primary violin teacher for the Woodbridge Suzuki School and the Shenandoah Junior Strings in Northern Virginia, Nadine has also taught at many Suzuki workshops and institutes in the Eastern U.S. She is delighted to be on the violin faculty of the Denison University Suzuki Program and Suzuki Music Columbus.
Susan Locke, Violin/Viola
A founding member of Bel Aurora and a very busy freelance musician, Susan is our highly versatile violinist/violist, quickly switching from duos to trios, quartets, and quintets with ease. Having earned a degree in viola performance from the Hartt School of Music and a master’s degree in violin performance from Southern Illinois University, she also studied Suzuki pedagogy with the well-known Suzuki pioneer, John Kendall. In addition to playing chamber music, Susan performs as the assistant principal second violin with Newark Granville Symphony, is on the violin and viola faculty at Otterbein University, is a faculty coach for Chamber Music Connection in Columbus, and works as Co-Artistic/Executive Director and violin/viola instructor with Suzuki Music Columbus! She and Doug have raised two wonderful young men – one, a professional violist and the other a professional violinist who are occasionally available to join in Bel Aurora performances.
